In Anglo-Norse language, articles play a crucial role in indicating definiteness and agreeing with the gender of nouns. We have two forms of articles: definite and indefinite.

Definite Articles

The definite article "hin" is used before nouns that are animate, for example, "hin kona" (the woman). On the other hand, the definite article "hit" is used before nouns that are not animate or neuter, like "hit hus" (the house).

Indefinite Articles

For indefinite articles, we use "en" before animate nouns, such as "en kona" (a woman). Similarly, "et" is used before not animate or neuter nouns, like "et hus" (a house).

The use of articles not only helps in specifying the definiteness of nouns but also ensures concordance in gender with animate nouns, reflecting the grammatical structure and nature of the noun being referred to. This system allows for clarity and precision in our language's expression.
